A COURSE ON THE IMAGINAL: Cultivating the Visionary Self

  • Google Calendar ICS

In the face of compounding historical and present-day traumas, environmental collapse, and chronic uncertainty, we know that we need something radically different. Yet, many of us feel the pain of not knowing where to begin. In this course, we view the wound as the portal and grief as the ceremony as we center the role of imagination in times of collapse. Here, we explore and exercise our creative muscle and find in nature the ultimate creative force as her powerful teachings serve our awakening. When we encounter and encourage the wild dance of the artist within, the creative self becomes part of the visionary collective.

On this journey, we center our living wholeness. We use creative somatics to bring bodily awareness to our imagination praxis, learn to work with attention-intensive practices and the autonomic nervous system, activate wakeful dreaming, employ creative writing and visual art, work with solfeggio and binaural beat frequencies, and many more creative outlets to do the important work of bodily, energetic, ancestral, and future generational tending needed for these times. We recenter the Earth while bringing into focus our cosmic responsibility. We integrate creativity as a regular practice in our lives and the means by which we commune.

As we move into the heart of the 6th mass extinction, how do we re-enter the ceremony of life and awaken the Imaginal within? In times of collapse, how do we fall without falling apart? Come, let us sit in circles of wonder and creative devotion as we embark on this 6-month personal and collective journey. Together, we will form beloved community, sharing our experiences and learning from each other. Creativity is the antidote to destruction; when we create with intention, our creations become the invocation, and the space inside and between us becomes the sanctuary.

“Alixa García’s Course on the Imaginal took all of us on a grand journey into our imaginations, into our individual and collective trauma and grief, into the arms of our ancestors, into a collective, collaborative vision of possibility and world-building. It was, in a few words, magic alchemy in a time of collective and individual grief, fear, and loss. After decades of doing anti-racist work, Alixa’s course showed me how to enter entirely new creative, imaginal dimensions of self, community, and spirit. This was one of the most beautiful, moving! collective and individual journeys I have ever been on. Whole universes opened up inside of me, and I was so honored to witness whole universes open up in my fellow imaginals too. Alixa is a magical alchemist of the most unique and wonderful order. Pure poetry!”

The Art of Alchemy

The Art of Alchemy Journey - Jan 23-30th, Brave Earth - Costa Rica

Transforming the Macrocosms by Tending to the Microcosms

The Art of Alchemy is an integrative approach to re-membering our deepest wisdom and actualizing our collective service. By working with our mycelial plant allies in the heart of the Jungle this program is designed to guide you through the process of both Inner Alchemy, a deep self inquiry & Collective Alchemy, the tending and transforming of relationships and community.

Our 7 night journey will help you connect with the sacred human experience and the brilliance of your soul’s purpose. By learning to honor the parts of you that were hidden away and lovingly embrace the complexity of your being, you can move into wholeness and authentically create new beginnings.

With conscious action, we shift from an ordinary life into an extraordinary existence — through ceremony and remembrance we can access our innermost wisdom to help us plant seeds of awakening and world-making.

Guided by facilitators Karina Turtzo, Julian DeVoe, Alixa Garica and Claudia Cuentas - Immerse in a journey of sacred work held in circles of collective care.

Entering the Home of Imagination: A Liberatory Practice for Just & Thriving Worlds

Working towards just and thriving worlds requires profound imagination. To have a robust liberatory practice, we need to diligently exercise our visionary and somatic muscles. In this two-part workshop, we will use creative writing, communal creation, visualization, art-making, and what I call Creative Somatics and Attention Intensive Practices to make a home for intuition and coax the artist within so that our inner creator can play with full permission to fail, explore, and reinvent, eventually finding homeostasis within us. Because joy shares its palms with sorrow, in our second session, we will be with grief as a ceremony in order to create more space within our particular portal for the visions wanting to come through.

HOW WE DO FREEDOM: Rising Against Fascism

EASTERN STANDARD TIME

Fascism is real, and it keeps creeping closer. Join me this Saturday as we gather with incredible thought leaders, activists, and artists to discuss:

•The Fuckery of Fascism

•The Body as the Front Line

•The Earth's Manifesta

•The Audacity of Abolition

•How We Do Freedom.

Each panel will feature an artist's response.

Throughout the day, we will unpack what fascism is in the US and globally and what we can do to combat it. We will explore the impact on all of us from women’s bodies to anti-Blackness and the suppression of LGBTQ+ and the disabled, to the banning of books, erasing history and immigration bans, union busting, increasing violence and expansion of the police state, and the destruction of the Earth.

We come together in solidarity, the antidote to loneliness and alienation that are fundamental to fascism.

Imagination Infrastructure: The Role of Imagination in Times of Collapse

EASTER STANDARD TIME

I'm honored to have been invited to curate this year's Imagination Infrastructure, a convening by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. I have gathered some of the most brilliant, heart-centered scholars, activists, organizers, and creatives who are bringing forth worlds unseen. They are truly imaginal.

This year's theme, The Role of Imagination in Times of Collapse, is inspired by a same-titled essay that I wrote last year, and it is such a wonder to see it come to life in this way. (The essay will be published soon and I will share it with you when it’s out!)

Imagination Infrastructure 2024 brings to the center the spirit of creativity through ancient wisdom, cutting-edge perspectives, and new visions in service of life for emerging worlds.

I will open the gathering with a keynote on the day's theme and close it with an interactive workshop. In between are five amazing panels and conversations that will inspire, uplift, and ignite you. .

Alixa García will be a guest facilitator

The aim of this course is to create a deeper collective understanding of the current crisis moment, how we situate ourselves within it, and how to cultivate practices to deepen empathy, resilience, and collective liberation. The course will help cultivate equity consciousness, expose the underpinnings of our economic system(s), foster deeper ecological interconnectedness, and co-develop “contextually relevant” etiquette (the manner in which we approach and interact with other beings, human and more-than-human). We will examine our unconscious agreements with the political economy and connect the dots between equity, economy, ecology and etiquette.

Expanding Possibilities of Love: Queer Ecology & Reimagining Belonging

10:30am-12:pm EST

ENTER IMAGINATION & THE QUEERING OF LINES

Description:
Enter the 1,500 animal species that practice same-sex coupling- from insects to fish, birds, and mammals. Enter the asexual fungi and the gender-shifting one too. Enter the bisexual dolphin, the red squirrel, the birth-giving male seahorse, and the snake orgy. Enter a school of clownfish, always built into a hierarchy with a female fish at the top. When she dies, the most dominant male changes sex and takes her place long after being born. Nature is as queer and multidimensional as it gets.

Let us remember that we live on a round 3-D circle, and it won't be boxed in! There are no straight lines in nature, so let us queer the linear thought and uphold the stories that will help us to re- spect (in its etymology to see again) life all around us.

Queering our ecological and cultural landscapes teaches us about multiplicitous thinking; it helps us expand beyond the single story, the binary view, the only solution. It reweaves us back into the intrinsic nature of life as we move through the heart of the 6th mass extinction. It recalibrates us as we embark on our generational task to dismantle systems of oppression and create post-capitalist futures if we are to keep participating in the miracle.
