Entering the Home of Imagination: A Liberatory Practice for Just & Thriving Worlds

Working towards just and thriving worlds requires profound imagination. To have a robust liberatory practice, we need to diligently exercise our visionary and somatic muscles. In this two-part workshop, we will use creative writing, communal creation, visualization, art-making, and what I call Creative Somatics and Attention Intensive Practices to make a home for intuition and coax the artist within so that our inner creator can play with full permission to fail, explore, and reinvent, eventually finding homeostasis within us. Because joy shares its palms with sorrow, in our second session, we will be with grief as a ceremony in order to create more space within our particular portal for the visions wanting to come through.

We were born in the age of consequence and are currently experiencing the extinction of an estimated 150-200 species every single day. We have transgressed six out of the nine planetary bounds. We are losing one human language every 40 days. 

What is the role of imagination, courage, and enchantment during such times? In this experiential talk, we will discuss the need for our individual and collective visionary tending.

This event will be a fundraiser for the Palestine Children's Relief Fund, Anera, and the Palestine Red Crescent Society. All three organizations are providing crucial, life-saving services on the ground.

I will be sharing a new collection of poems for Palestine and other poems never heard before.

As part of the Bioneers Learning platform, this online Community Conversation will delve into the Imaginal Expanse within and around us through what Alixa García calls Creativity Infused Somatic Practices. When we encounter and encourage the wild dance of the artist within, the imaginative self becomes part of the visionary collective needed for these times. Through various practices, we will create a home for our intuition, coax the artist within, and make soul commitments that enrich our intraceptive landscape. We will engage and debrief through collective inquiry.

Alixa García wrote a short visionary and science fiction story once, published in Octavia’s Brood Anthology alongside other activists of our time, edited by adrienne maree brown and Walidah Imarisha. In this in-person panel, Alixa will speak with fellow writers also published in the book, as well as activists, poets, journalists, filmmakers, and musicians who create for liberation.

A DAY-LONG CONVERSATION ON

TRAUMA, RITUAL & THE PROMISE OF THE MONSTROUS

With Resmaa Menakem, Bayo Akomolafe, and Orland Bishop. Tracing the diaspora in reverse, this multicultural workshop series will take place on three continents.

I’m excited to be presenting during this two day conference as well as designing and creating an interactive installation that will welcome guests at the Los Angeles event.

The journey continues making it’s way to Salvador, Brazil on Sept. 1 and Sept. 2 and weaves its way to Accra, Ghana on Dec. 16 and Dec. 17.
