MOUNTAIN STANDARD TIME

Feat. Poranguí, Snow Raven, Youssoupha Sidibe & Alixa García

Venue: Boulder Theater

Join us for an immersive evening as we explore culture as an opportunity for connection to community, music, and the world. This showcase is a celebration and a call to action - a remembrance of the importance of cultural preservation in these unique times.

This one-of-a-kind musical experience will feature four world-class musicians from diverse cultures, curated space design, a fundraising live auction, and more to be announced. The showcase supports “Raise the Roof,” a community project to transform the home of Native Diné Elders, Chief Danny John Sr., and First Lady Laurene John. You can learn more about their project here.

Poranguí:

As a live looping artist and one-man orchestra Poranguí weaves ancestral songs and indigenous rhythms from around the globe. Creating his performances from scratch using looping technology, Poranguí’s live grooves range from meditative to dance music, moving the body, lifting the spirit, and transcending the divide between performer and audience. Through the Kaleidoscope: A Journey of Play, Creativity and Imagining Futures

I’m thrilled to facilitate two sessions in this powerful nine-month series on play, creativity, and imagining futures alongside Bayo Akomolafe, Rebecca Struch, Amrita Dhaliwal (TBC), Caroline Reck & Gricelda Silva , Yvette Muller.

Hosted by Rooted Global Village. Below is a description of my particular offering.

Entering the Home of Imagination: A Liberatory Practice for Just & Thriving Worlds

Working towards just and thriving worlds requires profound imagination. To have a robust liberatory practice, we need to diligently exercise our visionary and somatic muscles. In this two-part workshop, we will use creative writing, communal creation, visualization, art-making, and what I call Creative Somatics and Attention Intensive Practices to make a home for intuition and coax the artist within so that our inner creator can play with full permission to fail, explore, and reinvent, eventually finding homeostasis within us. Because joy shares its palms with sorrow, in our second session, we will be with grief as a ceremony in order to create more space within our particular portal for the visions wanting to come through.

What is the role of imagination, courage, and enchantment during such times? In this experiential talk, we will discuss the need for our individual and collective visionary tending.

Bioneers Learning- A Doorway into the Imaginal Expanse

Pacific Time

As part of the Bioneers Learning platform, this online Community Conversation will delve into the Imaginal Expanse within and around us through what Alixa García calls Creativity Infused Somatic Practices. When we encounter and encourage the wild dance of the artist within, the imaginative self becomes part of the visionary collective needed for these times. Through various practices, we will create a home for our intuition, coax the artist within, and make soul commitments that enrich our intraceptive landscape. We will engage and debrief through collective inquiry.

Please bring: A blindfold, colored pencils/markers/or crayons, paper, something to write with.

A COURSE ON THE IMAGINAL: CULTIVATING THE VISIONARY SELF

This three-month online course designed and facilitated by Alixa García. As we move through this liminal space of the “no-longer-world” and the “not-yet-worlds-to-come,” this course is an offering for fellow journeyers as we move through the underworld of this time. Through deep creative practices, nature-based rituals, grief as ceremony, an invitation to fail, and a dive into what I am developing as Creativity-Infused Somatic practices, we will enter into the unknown, sit with uncertainty, and chant within the enchantment of these times to cultivate the visionary within.

CREATING POST-CAPITALIST FUTURES: LIVING AND DYING IN TIMES OF CRISIS

Alixa García will be a guest facilitator

The aim of this course is to create a deeper collective understanding of the current crisis moment, how we situate ourselves within it, and how to cultivate practices to deepen empathy, resilience, and collective liberation. The course will help cultivate equity consciousness, expose the underpinnings of our economic system(s), foster deeper ecological interconnectedness, and co-develop “contextually relevant” etiquette (the manner in which we approach and interact with other beings, human and more-than-human). We will examine our unconscious agreements with the political economy and connect the dots between equity, economy, ecology and etiquette.

Featuring Alixa Garcia, Bayo Akomolafe, Tiokasin Ghosthorse, Orland Bishop, Vanessa Andreotti, Brontë Velez, Jason Hickel, Resmaa Menakem, Lynn Murphy, Claudio Miranda, V (formerly known as Eve Ensler)

Expanding Possibilities of Love: Queer Ecology & Reimagining Belonging

10:30am-12:pm EST

ENTER IMAGINATION & THE QUEERING OF LINES

Description:
Enter the 1,500 animal species that practice same-sex coupling- from insects to fish, birds, and mammals. Enter the asexual fungi and the gender-shifting one too. Enter the bisexual dolphin, the red squirrel, the birth-giving male seahorse, and the snake orgy. Enter a school of clownfish, always built into a hierarchy with a female fish at the top. When she dies, the most dominant male changes sex and takes her place long after being born. Nature is as queer and multidimensional as it gets.

Let us remember that we live on a round 3-D circle, and it won't be boxed in! There are no straight lines in nature, so let us queer the linear thought and uphold the stories that will help us to re- spect (in its etymology to see again) life all around us.

Queering our ecological and cultural landscapes teaches us about multiplicitous thinking; it helps us expand beyond the single story, the binary view, the only solution. It reweaves us back into the intrinsic nature of life as we move through the heart of the 6th mass extinction. It recalibrates us as we embark on our generational task to dismantle systems of oppression and create post-capitalist futures if we are to keep participating in the miracle.

Rooted & Embodied- Our Bodies at the Borderland

to Apr 9

Rooted & Embodied- Our Bodies at the Borderland

Inherent in humanity is creation. We are makers by birthright; We can make a ruckus; we can make love; we can make a garden. When we create with intention, the space between us becomes a sanctuary. A space beyond certainty opens a portal into the imaginal.

This talk and experiential practice connect the critical role of creativity and the relationship between nature and our human movements towards liberation. Here we will find powerful teachings in biomimicry that serve our unfolding towards something beyond the crises of the now and implements the concept of the imaginal into our collective practice. Through these creative writing, visualization, and somatic exercises, we will weave our four days together into a collective poetic visioning that is all our own.
